Dr. Brinda Bose has been awarded a three year fellowship
by the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, Teen Murti Bhavan, New
Delhi to pursue research on Gender and Cinema. Her edited book,
Gender and Censorship, has just been published by Kali for Women
and Women Unlimited, New Delhi, 2006.
Amongst other seminars and conferences, Dr. Bose recently did a
joint presentation with two of her Hindu College students, Akhil
Katyal of B.A (H)English, IIIrd Year and Vaibhav Parel of M.A English,
Final Year on “Decolonizing the Classroom? In Search of New
Pedagogies for New Literatures” at an International Conference
organized by the Department of English, Delhi University, on ‘New
Literatures in English’, in December, 2005
Dr. Suroopa Mukherjee, Reader in the Department of English has also
been awarded a three year research fellowship by Nehru Memorial
Museum and Library, New Delhi to work on her project “Dancing
in the Streets: The Women Survivors of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy”.
Dr. Lalita Subbu, Reader in the Department of English gave a talk
on “Modern Novel in England” at a one day seminar on
“The Modern Novel” organized at Hindu College jointly
by the Departments of English of Hindu College and La Trobe University,
Melbourne. She presented a paper on “The Politics of Subversion:
The Plays of Manjula Padmanabham” at the international seminar
“Past the Post: New Literatures in English” organized
by the Department of English, University of Delhi. She further participated
in a panel discussion on “Literature and Fantasy” as
part of the inauguration of the annual festival of the English Department,
Deshbandhu College, New Delhi.
Dr. Tapan Basu, Reader in the Department of English has been awarded
the South Asia Research Programme Fellowship by Social Science Research
Council, New York, to work on his project “The Writings of
B.R.Ambedkar and the Construction of a Dalit Cultural Identity”.
He also attended a research workshop on the theme of “The
Long 1950s” organized at Negombo, Sri Lanka by the Social
Science Research Council, New York and presented a paper entitled
“Religion Conversion and the Anxieties of Derationalisation:
The Case of Babasaheb Ambedkar” at the IACLALS Annual Conference
at Shantiniketan, West Bengal.
Shri Tarun Saint, Lecturer in Reader’s grade in the Department
of English, presented the following papers : “The Figure of
the Witness in Partition Fiction” at a National Seminar on
“Fresh Perspectives on Partition Narratives’ at Jai
Hind College, Mumbai in November, 2005, “The Limits to Literary
Testimony: Representation of Violence in Bapsi Sidhwa’s ‘Ice
Candy Man’ and Anita Desai’s ‘Clear Light of Day’
presented at the international seminar “Past The Post: The
New Literatures in English”, organized by the Department of
English, Delhi University in Dec. 2005, “Representing Violence
in Partition Fiction in English” at the workshop ‘Representing
Partition’ at Department of English, Jamia Millia Islamia
in January 2006.
Dr. Harish Naval of Hindi Department published two books in this
academic year – ‘HINDI RANGMANCH SANDARBH’ AND
‘HINDI NATAK:TEEN DASHAK’. Twenty of his articles appeared
in journals and newspapers of All India Repute. Dr. Naval was invited
as the main speaker in the International Literary meet at Singapore,
organized by ‘PEN ASIAN CHAPTER’. He also represented
Indian authors in the cultural troupe to Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
He was felicitated for his literary services by the SAHITYA SANGAM
of Bareilly Uttar Pardesh and was nominated the Convenor of the
– PRAVASI LITERARY SYMPOSIUM organized by SAHITYA AKADEMI
and AKSHARAM INDIA.
Shri Chandrachur Singh of Political Science department presented
a paper at the National Seminar sponsored by University Grants Commission
at the Jai Narain Vyas University, Jodhpur on “Contemporary
Relevance of Gandhi”. His paper on “Democratic Governance:
The Public Private Interface” has been accepted for a conference
at City University, Hongkong. Another paper on “Public Institutions
and the Civil Society” has been accepted for the International
Political Science Association Conference to be held at Fokuyoka,
Japan.
Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Lecturer in Sanskrit Department presented a
paper entitled “Kavyadosh Ka Kavya Sarjana Main Bhumika”
in the three day All India Seminar organized by Sanskrit Department
at South campus and another paper on “Adhunik Sanskrit Kavyon
Ki Samiksha Ka Adhar” in the All India seminar organized by
Kalidas Sanskrit Academy held at St. Stephen’s College.
Dr. Vijay Garg of Sanskrit Department presented a paper on “Dhanpal
Ki Tilakmanjari aur Kavya Sarjana” in the three day All India
Seminar organized by Kalidas Sanskrit Academy held at St. Stephen’s
college.
Dr. Rekha Basu, Reader in the Department of Philosophy published
“Draupadi’s Shame Revisited” in Women’s
Watch Volume I, Issue 4.
M.A. Devasia of the same department published two papers : one “Subalternity
and the Hermeneutics of Religious Language : Some Reflections with
Reference to Samkara and Wittgenstein” in Subaltern Perspective:
Philosophizing in Context, edited by George Thadathil. The Second
